Weighted grade calculator
Add each assignment or category with its grade and weight to get your overall grade, and see what you need on the rest of the course.
| Assignment or category | Grade (% or 45/50) | Weight | Remove |
|---|---|---|---|
Enter a grade on each row. Leave every weight empty for a plain average, or give each row its weight in percent or points.

How to use it
- Enter each assignment or category with its grade, as a percentage or a score like 45/50.
- Enter each one's weight from the syllabus. Leave every weight empty for a simple average.
- Read your grade. If the weights add up to less than 100%, enter the grade you want to see what you need on the rest.
How to calculate a weighted grade
Multiply each grade by its weight, add the results and divide by the total weight. With homework at 92% worth 20%, quizzes at 85% worth 30% and a midterm at 78% worth 25%: (92 × 20 + 85 × 30 + 78 × 25) ÷ 75 = 84.5%.
That's your grade on the 75% of the course done so far. The remaining 25%, usually the final, decides the rest.
Weighted average vs. simple average
A simple average treats every grade the same: 92, 85 and 78 average to 85%. A weighted average gives the categories that count for more of the course more say, which is how most syllabuses work.
If your teacher grades by points, enter each assignment's points possible as its weight. That gives the same result as adding up all the points you earned and dividing by all the points possible.
FAQ
Do the weights have to add up to 100?
No. The calculator divides by the total weight, so weights of 20, 30 and 25 work, and so do points. If they add up to less than 100, the rest of the course counts as still to come, and the calculator can tell you what you need on it.
Can I enter a score like 18/20?
Yes. Type it as 18/20 and it counts as 90%.
What if a category has several grades?
Average them first and enter the average with the category's weight, or enter each grade on its own row and split the category's weight between them.
What's the difference between an average grade and a weighted grade?
An average grade counts every row equally. A weighted grade counts each row by its weight. Leave the weights empty for the first and fill them in for the second.
Are my grades saved?
No. They stay in this page and are gone when you close or reload it.
